Night is the New Day is Katatonia's eighth studio album. It was recorded throughout July 2009 & was co-produced, engineered and mixed by David Castillo.
An extension of the heaviness, depth and atmosphere featured on their previous outing, Night Is the New Day is also a more eclectic effort - moving between prog grandeur, ambient melancholy, folk delicacy and the classic melodic anthems that are the staple of Katatonia's uncompromising sound, completed by the haunting tones of Jonas Renkse's vocal journeys of urban & emotional decay.
Cover art once again comes courtesy of Travis Smith (Katatonia, Opeth, Novembre) & continues the stylistic identity established so effectively since The Great Cold Distance.
A potent fusion of atmospheric rock and metal, Night is the New Day was the 2009 studio release from Swedish titans, Katatonia.
Originally available as a digibook CD and a Ltd Edition (1000 copies) double gatefold 180g heavyweight black vinyl which both quickly sold out. A second pressing on white vinyl also sold out. The CD is available in a jewel case.
Now a third 1000 pressing of the vinyl is available in a gatefold sleeve:
Please note this edition is on black vinyl, has no sticker, the sleeve has matt varnish (not laminate) and the inner bags are standard weight rather than heavy weight.
'Possibly the greatest 'heavy' record I have heard in the last 10 years... it truly is a masterpiece!' Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth)
