Clive Mitten sets to music selected poems written by his former Twelfth Night bandmate, the late Geoff Mann. 

 

The poems are read by Pete Lawrence, Geoff’s best friend at University, who was there in the 1970s hearing them as Geoff wrote them. 

 

This is a special RSK Entertainment limited-edition release. Every CD is signed by both Clive and Pete and individually numbered.

 

The 24-page booklet includes all the poems and lyrics as well as Clive’s detailed information on each track.

This is a quite a remarkable album. pairing Geoff's wonderful words with Clive's sensitive musical settings. Uncompromising as ever, honest but with humour, Geoff 's mastery of language was without parallel among his peers. Pete's performance is stunning.

 

Pete: “the words bring Geoff’s voice back. His motormouth eloquence, spontaneity and holy fool’s stance against the madmen dragging us to the brink. The humour, invective and honesty bubbling up, and, like back in the seventies, I just tried to keep up with it. Clive’s music is sublime and masterful in creating the myriad spaces required to accommodate Geoff’s vision.

 

Clive: “Writing music to accompany poems requires a different soundworld to those I use normally. The idea is to add interest but not intrude. It is more ambient with lots of airy guitars, classical guitars and warped pianos. I could hear Geoff in my head, until Pete arrived and then I could hear Geoff in the room. He gave a remarkable performance. It is now 48 years since we three first met. I had just started at Reading - and the rest is history.”
