Vital (1978) was a brutal sonic assault and featured Van der Graaf at its most powerful and impassioned. 

 

Featuring a line-up of Peter Hammill, Guy Evans, Nic Potter, Graham Smith, Charles Dickie and a guest appearance from VDGG saxophonist/flautist David Jackson, the album was compiled from recordings made at London's legendary Marquee Club in London on 15 and 16 January.
