Octopus, from 1972, was one of Gentle Giant's most accomplished and accessible releases blending the band's abundant imagination with a collection of strong melodies and focused performances.
180g black vinyl in a gatefold sleeve with the original European artwork including all lyrics.
50th anniversary reissue of the original mix.
This 2020 edition is remastered from the original mixes. As Ray Shulman has said:
"The tapes used were the original quarter inch masters from the Phonogram/Universal archive.
They were digitised at 24bit/192khz from a Studer A80 Mkii Tape Machine.
Tape machine line up and bias settings are critical in faithfully reproducing the masters, so we thought it best to send digital files, that we knew were correctly transferred, to the cutting room.
That way we didn't have to rely on unknown inferior tape machines."
To be clear, these 2020 releases do not use any of the later Steven Wilson mixes and Steven did not remaster any of them.
Please note: Apologies to any fans who are confused by the text on the Octopus inner sleeve. Unfortunately the label accidentally copied the text for the inner sleeve across from the CD version, and forgot to remove the bit referring to Steven Wilson. Steven was not involved on this version.
Please note a few copies have a slight ding to one of the corners. Sold as seen, no returns.
