Acknowledged as one of the fathers of World music, Don Cherry is also considered one of the most important Jazz musicians of his era.
Having played with musicians as diverse as Ornette Coleman and Lou Reed, the multi-instrumentalist further developed his unique sound through his exploratory solo albums.
This deluxe 2CD set comprises two of his most adventurous albums, recorded in France for the BYG Actuel label in 1969 and 1971 respectively.
The first disc features MU (first and second parts), in which Cherry is joined by drummer Ed Blackwell.
The second disc contains the Orient album, which captures Cherry in a live trio set accompanied by the great Dutch drummer Han Bennink and the South African bassist Johnny Dyani. The album's four extended pieces reflect Cherry's passion for global culture, touching on elements of Indonesian gamelan, Indian Karnatic singing, Free Jazz and the rhythms of African and American Indian rituals.
The digibook package includes a booklet with in-depth notes and photos.
