Voted the most influential and important Folk album of all time by BBC Radio Two listeners, Liege And Lief followed a dificult time in Fairport Convention's existence - following a fatal car crash that killed drummer Martin Lamble and Richard Thompson's girlfriend - and further built on the fusion of contemporary Rock experimentation and traditional melodies established on A Sailor's Life.

 

Including new members Dave Swarbrick and Dave Mattacks, by the time the album was released, Sandy Denny and Ashley Hutchings had both left the group.
